Cloudy
1ft x 1ft Oil paint on canvas December 2022 This painting, inspired by Uladen’s, analyzes the normalized drug use among teens. His art catches mental states, rejecting emotions by portraying faces covered and almost floating away. The person depicted in my painting is smoking in an unrecognizable emotional state. The reason is ambiguous, expressing different opinions of drug use. Maybe high, with a mind incapable of focusing. Or drugs have affected their brain, declining function. The purpose is for the viewer to decide based on biases. |

1. Clearly explain and describe how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationship between your inspiration upon your artwork
The cause-effect relationship between my own art and my inspiration is clear through the use of texture. although there are other aspects that demonstrate a similarity, the use of oil paint and texture is the most obvious. the lick layers of paint adds to the meaning and allows a literal, instead of implied, texture throughout the piece.
2. What is the overall approach (point of view) the author (from your research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
my inspiration was very set on expressing personal emotions or states of mind. in all of his work he was very determined to display the human condition in different ways, through different portrays of people and lighting.
3. What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration
I have determined that there are an immense amount of human conditions that can be displayed through art. these conditions can be represented by an enormous amount of contrasting elements and principals or art. through the texture, movement, and value change, en entirely new emotion of state of mind can be portrayed.
4. What was the central idea or theme around your inspiration research?
expressing state of mind and different human conditions is what my inspiration intended to focus on, with a highlighted theme of self expression. all of his work was self expression but through different "characters" or people other than himself. he used these different people to display how he was feeling and what state he was in.
5. What kind of inferences (conclusions reached on the bases of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your research?
I have determined that emotion is easily conveyed in art. although this is something I have been able to determine previously, this research has helped me finalize my generalization.
